Life as a Ranger: On the Frontlines of the EV Charging Revolution

Curious about what it’s like to keep the future of mobility running smoothly? Meet the Rangers, Powerdot’s EV Charging Site Operations Specialist, who install, maintain, and repair the infrastructure powering Europe’s electric transformation.

From motorway service areas to shopping centres, EV chargers are becoming a familiar sight. And behind every reliable charging point is a Ranger. These field-based technicians play a crucial role in ensuring that every Powerdot charger operates at its optimal performance, providing EV drivers with a seamless and stress-free experience.

We spoke with Iheb Jellouli, based in Hauts-de-France, to find out what life in the field really looks like and why this job is far more than just wires and wrenches.

A Day in the Life of a Powerdot Ranger

For Iheb, no two days are ever the same. His mornings begin by checking Powerdot’s internal monitoring system for alerts and new service tickets. From there, he maps out his route, always equipped with essential tools and spare parts, ready to solve whatever challenges come his way.

There are two key missions:

  • Proactive Maintenance: Diagnosing issues before they happen, inspecting cable integrity, cleaning units, and testing performance to ensure drivers don’t run into problems.
  • Reactive Support: When something goes wrong, Rangers are first on the scene. From network glitches to damaged connectors, they fix what they can and escalate complex issues efficiently.

“It’s like being a tech detective. Every problem is a puzzle waiting to be solved”, says.

The Challenges (and Why They’re Worth It)

According to Iheb, the real challenge isn’t just fixing issues. It’s keeping up with the rapid evolution of EV technology. Different charger models, constant firmware updates, and shifting software protocols mean Rangers are always learning new things.

And then there’s the unpredictability.

“I can have a perfectly planned day, but one urgent ‘charger down’ alert changes everything. You need to be agile, focused, and ready for anything”, explains.

Even external factors like network outages or user error can create issues that require quick thinking and clear communication.

What Makes It Worthwhile?

Despite the fast pace and technical complexity, Iheb says what he values most is the autonomy and the impact.

“I know that my work keeps people moving. Every charger I fix is one more step towards a more sustainable future.”

Being a Ranger means ownership of a territory, building local knowledge, and acting as the face of Powerdot for partners and users. You’re not just behind the scenes. You’re a key part of the customer experience.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to work in a field where you can see the impact of your work every single day”, he believes.

Iheb’s favourite part? Discovering the unexpected.

“Before Powerdot, I thought I knew my region. But being on the road, I’ve seen places I never would have visited otherwise. Now, I’m planning my ‘Belgium Tour’ to learn from our colleagues across the border.”

Thinking of Applying?

If you love problem-solving, technology, and autonomy, this could be the role for you.

“You’re not just a technician. You’re an essential part of the electric mobility transition. It’s a challenge, yes. But one with real purpose and satisfaction.”

Powerdot is always hiring EV Charger Specialists across Europe, in France, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, and Poland. You can find Powerdot’s open roles here: https://powerdot.eu/en/careers
